Daily Routine

Each day the children follow a routine, which consists of homework, snack, game room/arts & crafts, Bible story, and gym or playground time.

Homework:

Church members, some of whom are retired teachers, volunteer to help children with their homework each day.

Snack:

After homework has been completed, children are served a snack in the gym.

Game Room / Arts & Crafts:

After having a snack, children move on to the game room where they can play board games, do arts & crafts, read books & magazines, work puzzles, and play Lego's.  Once a week each child gets an opportunity to play video games or play at the game table, which consists of, fuse ball, air hockey, pool, and other games.

Bible Story:

Each day there is Bible story time for about 20 minutes.  Children learn the books of the Bible, memory verses, Bible facts, and stories form the Old and New Testaments.

Gym Time:

After Bible story time the children play a game in the gym.  During gym time there is usually an organized game such as:

Kickball

Baseball

Dodge ball

Prison ball

Capture the Flag

Scooter Hockey

Volleyball

Children who do not want to play the game in the gym have the option of playing in the game room.  However, if the weather is nice, everyone goes out to the playground.

Cost

Cost for the AfterSchool Program is $20 a month.  For those families who have more than one child attending the AfterSchool Program the cost is $20 a month for the first child and $10 a month for the second child and following.  This helps cover the costs of snacks and any other supplies needed.  Our goal is not to make a profit but to provide children with a safe, Christian environment until their parents get home from work.

AfterSchool Program Guidelines

Welcome to the Benton church of Christ AfterSchool Program (ASP).  As you know, the ASP is designed for children of working parents.  (Either both parents work outside the home or the single parent works outside the home.)  Therefore, we ask that you please pick up your child promptly after you have finished at work for the day.  We also ask that you please not send your child to ASP if you have the day off.  We encourage parents to spend as much time as possible with their children.

On the first day of school, please send a note to your child’s teacher informing her that your child will be attending the Benton church of Christ AfterSchool Program.  Also, you should list your child’s bus drop-off location as the Benton church of Christ.

Benton Elementary….. Judy Rudd, #991……….arrives at building at 3:00pm

South Elementary…....Becky Cornwell, #972.…arrives at building at 3:40pm

***If your child is to be absent from the program, or there is a change in your child’s schedule due to sickness or other reasons, you must notify BOTH the school and the AfterSchool Program.

Our Daily Routine:

·        Check-in

·        Homework/Snack

·        Games/Arts & Crafts/Reading

·        Bible Story

·        Gym/Playground

Please pick up your child through the back entrance of the church building.  Parents (or those authorized on the information card) are required to sign their child out each day, noting the time.  DO NOT allow your child to sign himself/herself out.  All those allowed to pick up your child must be on your child’s information card.  If an emergency arises, the person picking up your child may be asked to show proof of identification.  This is for your child’s protection!

We will be having special days throughout the school year, such as our Christmas Party.  Please be looking for notes on the dry-erase board by the back entrance as well as in the yellow ASP folder that I will send home.

Please know that bringing friends who are not enrolled in the ASP is discouraged.  If a child needs to have a friend come with them on Friday, please notify us a few days in advance and the decision will be left to the director/teacher’s discretion.

If your child needs to attend on a day that he/she does not normally come, it is NO PROBLEM…we are here to help you!  Please call the church office or the direct line and let us know to be looking for him/her.   Just remember that he/she will need to be picked up by 5:00 pm.

We appreciate the good things that we hear from parents about the AfterSchool Program.  We know that parents want to share information with other parents who are in need of a program such as this.  We ask if you tell others about the AfterSchool Program that you let them know their name will be put on the waiting list.

***Remember, if Marshall County Schools are not in session for any reason or if school is dismissed early, ASP will NOT be in session.

ASP Rules:

Can be summed up into two words, GOLDEN RULE.  We ask that each child treat others, both children and AfterSchool staff,  as they want to be treated.  If we have problems with a child, we will talk to his/her parent(s) first.  If the problems persist we will ask the parent(s) to make other arrangements for the child’s AfterSchool care.
